National Public Health Week
April 7, 2009
SAN JOSE, CA—Over 300 youth will be at The Fairmont Hotel in downtown San Jose on Friday, April 10th in celebration of National Public Health Week and to share their views with the community on how to put an end to HIV/AIDS. The Silicon Valley Youth Leadership Summit on HIV/AIDS is an inaugural event for high school and college youths who will learn about citizenship, activism, community building and health issues. The Summit is being held in conjunction with National Public Health Week, emphasizing the theme of “Building the Foundation for a
Healthy America.”
“We are thrilled to have such a large interest by youth, schools and the entire community in fighting HIV/AIDS,” commented Dane Dugan, executive director of AIDS Coalition Silicon Valley who is producing the event. “Our goal is to provide an avenue where young people’s voices are heard and where they can tell us about how to reach their demographic who are drastically affected by the HIV/AIDS pandemic.”
Program features include the executive producer of Batman, Michael Uslan who will provide the keynote address at the noon luncheon. Other speakers include Dr. Rick Rigsby, Texas A&M Professor and Jerry Kaiser, health professor at San Jose State University. The audience will also be entertained by Beats N Pieces who have been featured on America’s Best Dance Crew. The summit is being provided free of charge through the generosity of Xilinx, The Health Trust and AIDS Coalition Silicon Valley.
